A Girl
A Violin

Synopsis

When a young girl shatters the instrument she cannot master, she is taken behind the workbench of a master Luthier to discover that her true voice isn’t found in the performance, but in the craft of the wood itself.

Juliet is a high-energy, somewhat clumsy young girl living in a cluttered, run-down home with her well-meaning but overwhelmed father. Her life changes the moment she stops in front of a local violin shop and witnesses the focused, quiet grace of a master Luthier at work.

Gifted an instrument of her own, Juliet's passion initially meets disaster—a series of "ear-splitting" failures that lead her to a breaking point. But in the wake of a fit of rage that leaves her violin in pieces, she is met with empathy. Invited behind the "black curtain" of the workshop, Juliet stops fighting the wood and starts understanding it, beginning a journey of precision and patience that eventually sees her find her place as the next generation of master craftspeople.

Composition

In a film centered on the creation of sound, the music acts as the primary narrator. The sound design will capture the tactile elements, adding additional presence while working closely with the orchestral arrangements. It is these arrangements that will carry the emotional weight of our characters' journeys.

These arrangements are carefully woven to help the audience feel every step of the transformation, from the sharp, dissonant frustrations of Juliet’s early failures to the soaring joy of her discovery. The score accompanies the watercolor style and ensures that every shift in the character's internal world is seen, felt, and heard.
